Hyderabad, India – A 30-year-old woman has been diagnosed with smartphone vision syndrome (SVS) after experiencing blindness for 18 months. The woman developed the symptoms after quitting her job as a beautician and spending several hours daily, including more than two hours at night, browsing on her smartphone with the lights switched off. The diagnosis was made by Dr. Sudhir Kumar, a neurologist, after evaluating the woman’s history and symptoms. SVS is a type of digital vision syndrome caused by long-term use of digital devices such as computers, smartphones, and tablets. The doctor advised the woman to minimize smartphone use and suggested the 20-20-20 rule to prevent SVS, which involves taking a 20-second break every 20 minutes to look at something 20 feet away. The woman returned for a review a month later and had fully recovered from her vision impairment.
